Exaro was one of two websites commended in the “Best Campaigning/Investigative Journalism” category in the Online Media Awards on June 21, 2012. The Times was also commended in the category, which was won by The Sunday Times. The other nominees were International Business Times UK and Press Gazette.

The Online Media Awards 2012 seek to recognise the best in online news and journalism.

Exaro’s nomination in May came just seven months after the investigative website’s launch. Entries were judged by a 20-strong international media panel, and the results were revealed on June 21 in the Emirates Stadium in London.

The awards, now in their second year, are organised by The Drum and supported by Press Association, Society of Editors, National Union of Journalists and Hold the Front Page.

Gordon Young, editor of The Drum, said: “This year’s nominations truly reflect the rapid development and investment in the online side of the newspaper publishing business. They provide strong evidence that publishers are really beginning to understand the online dynamic.”
